Formatting tips

Be forewarned: Moving text from a Word document or from within BB to your blog will wreak havoc with your formatting. So please do not just copy and paste without proofing your blog entries. You will need to clean up the text and, very likely, fix punctuation and spacing. But the main mess will be with your citations. Things to watch for:

- Underlining will disappear. I suggest using italics for titles, rather than underlining, because that feature is available on the tool bar in your blog (small i icon). You can underline if you want, but then you will need to switch to HTML mode and use the correct code.

- The URLs for your citations might also disappear completely. To make your URLs appear,do the following:

  • Type up your citation (or copy and paste from Word but be sure to remove any formatting)
  • Highlight your URL (not the brackets)
  • Click on "links" icon on your tool bar (between the italics and quotations marks). A box will pop up asking you to reenter the URL. Click okay.
  • Use the Preview option to see if your link is working. Here's one I created:

Alexie, Sherman. shermanalexie.com. 2004. 21 April 2006 <http://fallsapart.com>.

It's not hard to do; it just takes time and attention to detail.
